It was hard to choose a single project from the many interesting ones that were produced by the Gauntlet assignment. Two projects I really liked were Robert’s Sun-like meteorite visualization and Evi’s vibrating dot visualization for earthquake magnitudes.

I liked Robert’s project (Sun/star meteorite visualization) both for the beautiful image produced and it’s striking similarity to the Sun. It almost felt as if the data was meant to fit into that shape, specially since it has 3 distinct layers akin to the photosphere, chromosphere and space around the Sun.

Evi’s visualization for earthquake magnitude (Vibrating dot visualization) was a brilliantly simple way of displaying that information. I liked how she used a property different from common ones like size and position to represent magnitudes. Additionally, the chosen property (intensity of motion) was apt for the dataset.
