// Example of variable declaration & assignment;
// Example of a basic for loop.

```// Example of variable declaration & assignment; // Example of a basic for loop.   size(300,300); background(255); strokeWeight(3);   int L; // I DECLARE, there will be an int L L = 47; // I ASSIGN L to have have a value, 47 int R = 243; // combination of DECLARE and ASSIGN   int spacing = 19; for (int i=0; // I declare a counting integer, called i. i<23; // The "continuation condition": This loop will repeat so long as i is less than 23. i=i+1 // After each repeat, increment i by 1. ){ line(L,100, R,i*spacing); }```
This for loop counts from startValue to endValue, skipping by skip:
```size(300,500); background(255); strokeWeight(3); stroke(255,0,0);   int startVal = 140; int endVal = 300; int skip = 13;   for (int i=startVal; i<endVal; i+=skip){ line(10,i, 200,i); }```

Counting order matters!

```// Counting direction matters! size(300,330); background(255,200,200);   // Counting up from 1 to 10 for (int i=1; i<=10; i++){ ellipse(100,i*30, 50,50); }   // Counting down from 10 to 1 for (int i=10; i>0; i--){ ellipse(200,i*30, 50,50); }```
