This map combines information from Wikipedia about songs and cities with an OpenStreetMap and a Spotify web player in order to create an interactive map where clicking on a city that has songs written about it brings up all of those songs on spotify based on the wikipedia article for that city.  While this interface makes it easy to explore songs that are geographically related in content, and particularly highlights how different the genres of these songs can be, it doesn’t provide a great deal of insight on the aggregate data.Screen Shot 2016-01-18 at 8.09.28 PM

Since each city is represented by an identical music note, there is no way to visually compare even basic information like the number of songs written about each city, let alone the styles of songs, eras of the songs, etc.  As a result, the map relies much more heavily on interaction to provide information than it does visual display – a feature that I think underserves what could be a fascinating combination of visual and sonic experience.
