Feltron Annual Report
Four things have really caught my attention in this project:
- how much Feltron is revealing about himself and circle in a time when everyone is talking about privacy.
- The confidence he has to actually publish a project of this volume about himself and believe people would actually care to read it.
- Apparently, the excellent quality of work.
- The amount of time he spent taking statistics and measurements of himself, i mean.. holy shit.
I can’t find a single thing that I don’t like about this project, but I wonder if the information he’s revealing can be used against him in any way.

Chopin, Mazurka in F# Minor
The image illustrates the complex, nested structure of the piece.
The diagrams in The Shape of Song display musical form as a sequence of translucent arches. Each arch connects two repeated, identical passages of a composition. By using repeated passages as signposts, the diagram illustrates the deep structure of the composition.
Using one shape repeatedly changing the size or transparency is a method that has been used a lot in data visualization, it’s simple and maintains the focus on the data rather than the graphic itself.
The project allows you to chose a song and see a still image of its shape, and you can play the song separately. In my opinion this project could’ve been more interesting if animated, probably by adding the curves the first time the passage is played and illuminating them the second time they’re played. I can also suggest mapping the volume of the transparency of the arc.
