me, doing this.

Me, doing this is a programme visualizing myself programming this programme to visualize myself programming…

It was programmed using Max/MSP. I collect the mouse data (screen position, mouse down, mouse up), and I collect whether or not I’m currently working or procrastinating. The white are moments that I’m working (the patcher in focus), and the red is when I’m procrastinating (patcher not in focus). Each dot represents a mouse down.

The total project took 9h 15m 10s 350ms to code, and a total of 666,207 lines of data with a timestamp were recorded and played back at superman speed (in two minutes).

wow, this is so cool. i wish there’s a more labeling of things; if you didn’t mention the patch button on the bottom left, i wouldn’t have known what it represented. trying to understand the proprotion of the work to procrastinating would have been helpful (percentage of time?)
I agree with the comment above. +1
I’d like to see a timeline of the mouse clicks — this could be layered onto the main timeline bar at the top of the screen.
Its intereseting as well as useful for corporations. An evil boss can track for how long employees were working or procrastinating – visually.

Wonderful. Great concept and you did manage to pull it off. My only issue is that I don’t realy relate to the visualization in the end. It only speaks of where you’re clicking and pointing, and not much of what you’re doing. I guess it would be really hard, but I think you can pull it off ;)
Brilliant!! Can you export as an application for others to measure tha petterns of their work/procrasinating, that would be a hit!
very META :) – spitz likes to think about things :)
making digital space phsyical is excitin g, the data is hard to undestand but i like the physicality of it – does the mouse energy mean anything? distance traveled?
metaphors between natural landscape (universe/sky) and desktop :) (+1)
there are totally apps for this
super trippy ! .. the programming abt programming !! .. nice viz too ! .. but viz makes sense for the work environment but kinda loses meaning for the ‘procrastination mode’.. but the viz looks super neat !
Good collors! Beautiful presentation… but, it was so fast, I’m nervous!
The colors don’t work as well as I would like, though — I’d like to see a red accumulation and a white accumulation more clearly.
Would be interesting if the system could prompt you to label the “hotspots” which naturally emerge. More generally, I agree with the person who remarked that the system deserves more labelling.
    Nice.
Cool. It would be cool how much my mouse icon travel a day.
